Three teams have been selected for the bulk of Thames Water鈥檚 construction work during the AMP5 period, worth up to 拢1.2bn over five-years.

The three are:

* Optimise, a joint venture between J Murphy & Sons, Clancy Docwra, Barhale and MWH, which will look after north London and Thames Valley water pipes and sewers.

* MGJV, comprising Morrison Utility Services and Galliford Try, which will deliver water pipes and sewers work in south London.

* GBM, featuring Galliford Try, Biwater and Mott MacDonald, which will be responsible for water and sewage treatment works across the capital.

Thames Water will use the trio for essential work to improve and maintain its facilities from April 2010 to March 2015.

Chief executive Martin Baggs said: 鈥淚n our continued drive to be more efficient for our 13 million customers, we鈥檝e completely changed the way we do our work.

鈥淚nstead of letting numerous small contracts to lots of providers, we鈥檙e working with leading organisations to deliver the 鈥榖ase load鈥 of our investment programme for the next five years.

鈥淭his new approach has changed the way our contractors have bid for the work: they鈥檝e formed joint ventures, each containing the required specialists.

鈥淭he way we鈥檝e structured these programmes of work will also allow our contractors to plan further ahead and give them greater incentives to be efficient on cost and time.鈥
