The contract is worth 拢18m a year and will run for six years from inception, which is scheduled for October 2013. Ferrovial Services subsidiary Amey will handle repair and maintenance of the 20,000km of drinking water mains, plus new connections and meter installations in the counties of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Herefordshire and Glamorgan.
The award of the contract follows Amey being appointed as emergency contractor for Welsh Water in May 2013 for a period of five months when the previous contractor went into administration.
Amey鈥檚 chief executive Mel Ewell: 鈥淲e are delighted that Welsh Water has appointed Amey to deliver its services in South Wales. We look forward to bringing our expertise in this industry to the area and to supporting Welsh Water in delivering essential water services to local communities."
Amey had been appointed last week by England鈥檚 Highways Agency to manage 965km of East Anglian roads under a 拢200m contract.
