Builders merchant has a flutter for charity

25 Mar 11 Jewson has raised £2,000 for its charity partner Help the Hospices at this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

Jewson, supplier of sustainable timber and building materials, continued its association with The Festival by sponsoring the new race 鈥 the Grade 2 Jewson Novices鈥 Chase, which took place on the third day of the festival.

220 Jewson customers from across the country were entertained in VIP style on the day, enjoying the very best that racing has to offer 鈥 top class horses, jockeys and races. Whilst customers were encouraged to have a flutter on the horses, they were also asked to dig deep to donate to the charity on the day and raised a generous 拢2,000 as a result.

Help the Hospices is Jewson鈥檚 charity of choice, as part of its 鈥楾ogether鈥 charity programme. Since its launch in 2002 this programme has raised over 拢1.6 million for some great causes including the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street and Cancer Research UK. The programme encourages Jewson staff, their families, customers and suppliers to organise and participate in a range of activities to support the nominated charity through fundraising and volunteering. July 2009 saw the launch of the 鈥榯ogether鈥 partnership between Help the Hospices and Jewson, with almost 500 sites twinned with their local hospice.

Mike Palfreman, director of fundraising at Help the Hospices, the leading charity supporting hospice care throughout the UK, said:

鈥淗ospices are local charities rooted in the communities they serve. Their services are free of charge to patients and their families 鈥 but hospice care is not free to provide. We are extremely grateful to Jewson and the 鈥楾ogether鈥 charity programme for giving local hospices the exciting opportunity to benefit from this collective fundraising effort.

鈥淭he money that has been raised will add to the precious funds that allow our member hospices to care for more than 170,000 adults and children with life-limiting and terminal illnesses each year, as well as their friends and families.鈥澛
