In 2015 there were 24,000 UK residents accepted into UK universities to read engineering courses, an increase of 7.5% on 2014 and up by 64% compared to 2007.
UK applications accepted to read architecture, building and planning related subjects, also increased in 2015 – by 6.7% – but the longer term trend is not so positive. UK student numbers accepted on these subjects in higher education have dropped by more than 17% since 2007.
The data has been gathered by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)
It also shows that 22% of students accepted onto UK high education engineering courses in 2015 were from overseas. The proportion for architecture, building and planning was similar, with 21% of students from overseas.
