Chair of Staffordshire University鈥檚 Board of Governors, Steve Burgin, was given the honour of connecting the final solar panel into the electrical mains of the building, on the roof of the new four storey structure.
Following the topping out ceremony, invited guests enjoyed a laser light and fireworks display, signifying this momentous occasion.
Chris Webster, Chief Executive, Miller 今日看料, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to celebrate the progress being made on Staffordshire University鈥檚 new Science and Technology Centre.聽 Works are progressing well and we look forward to delivering this educational facility next year, which I am confident will benefit staff, learners and the local community for many years to come.鈥�
Due for completion in autumn 2012, the new centre will host specialist science and technology laboratories, a cognitive and developmental psychology suite, interview rooms, two lecture theatres, a dedicated IT suite, learning resource centre, flexible learning spaces, caf茅 and public exhibition space.
Paul Richards, Deputy-Vice Chancellor, Staffordshire University, said: 鈥淲e are delighted with the progress of the building which represents significant investment by Staffordshire University in science and technology and which will give students and the local community access to the best state-of-the-art learning facilities.
鈥淲e feel that the design compliments the adjoining six form college and together they represent the vision we have for the University Quarter and a brighter more confident future for North Staffordshire.鈥�
Science students from the City-of-Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College and Stoke-on-Trent College will also be able to make use of the facilities at the new Science and Technology Centre.
