The contractor will build a four-storey extension to the hospital鈥檚 existing clinical sciences wing, which houses the University鈥檚 medical research and teaching facilities. The 2,200m虏 facility, designed by ADP architects, will double the available research space.
Nick Seddon, operations manager at Morgan Sindall in Nottingham, said: 鈥淭his is the second major project we鈥檝e been awarded from the University of Leicester, following our work on the redevelopment of the Percy Gee Students鈥� Union building which will officially open this month.
鈥淭he CRC will further advance Leicester's world-class reputation as a centre of excellence in cardiovascular science and we鈥檙e delighted to be involved in the delivery of such a key facility.鈥�
Professor Nilesh Samani, British Heart Foundation professor of Cardiology at the University of Leicester, says: 鈥淭he CRC will provide high quality laboratory and academic space that will be essential in realising our bold and novel research vision and will ultimately benefit families and patients whose lives have been affected by cardiovascular disease.鈥�
Work is due to start later this month and is scheduled for completion in February 2012.
