Morgan Sindall wins £2m Norwich City Hall refurb

13 Dec 12 Norwich’s Grade II listed City Hall is set to be extensively refurbished by Morgan Sindall.

The contractor has been awarded a 拢2m deal to carry out repairs, window replacement and internal refurbishment to modernise the building鈥檚 interior.

Working with architects from NPS Property Consultants, the project will involve the creation of a modern open-plan office space for council workers, with better natural lighting and more efficient use of the available space. Some windows will be replaced during the development, which is expected to complete in April 2013.

Norwich City Hall dates back to 1938 and is one of the Norwich 12, a collection of 12 heritage buildings in Norwich deemed of particular historical and cultural importance.

Council deputy leader Alan Waters said: 鈥淭he refurbishment of City Hall is a 鈥榮pend to save鈥 project. We are spending money on repairing and refurbishing the building so we can create more space and bring the majority of our employees into the building. This will save money on offices we currently use around the city.

鈥淎s the council鈥檚 headquarters, City Hall鈥檚 office space needs to meet the challenges of the 21st century and not just those of the decade in which it was built 鈥 the 1930s.

鈥淲e鈥檙e pleased with the progress Morgan Sindall is making in helping to retain the proud prominence and dignity of one of the city鈥檚 historic landmarks, while at the same time transforming some of the internal space so it is fit for purpose.鈥
