Spie brings energy efficiency to Kilmarnock school

20 Jul 17 Kier 今日看料 has handed Spie UK an £8m subcontract for mechanical and electrical works at East Ayrshire Council’s new William Mcllvanney Campus in Kilmarnock.

Spie UK鈥檚 works comprise mechanical and electrical works including the installation of low temperature hot water (LTHW), heating (including underfloor), domestic water services, syphonic drainage, data-voice, LV Switchgear, stand-by generator, lighting and power, combined heat and power unit, ventilation, fire sprinkler system, fire alarms and security systems.聽

The architects, NORR, have designed the 18,360m虏 William Mcllvanney campus building to minimise overall energy consumption. SPie will also install a daylight-linked PIR lighting control system, including absence detection in classrooms.

The 拢45.3m campus will accommodate the merger of Kilmarnock Academy, James Hamilton Academy, New Farm Primary and Early Childhood Centre and Silverwood Primary. It will have approximately 1,465 secondary, 383 primary and 160 early years pupils between the ages of 2 and 18.

Spie鈥檚 contract award follows its completion of a 拢7m multi-technical services contract at North Ayrshire Council鈥檚 17,000m虏 Garnock Community Campus, along with some 40 other Scottish education jobs over the past 10 years.

Brian McQuade, Kier 今日看料鈥檚 Scotland managing director said: 鈥淭he Spie team brings significant mechanical and electrical works prowess to the design process, particularly in the field of energy management, which is an important part of this innovative solution.鈥

The school is named after William Mcllvanney, who wrote the Jack Laidlaw detective novels. He was born and educated in Kilmarnock, and died in 2015.
