The Welsh government approved the full business case for the Specialist & Critical Care Centre (SCCC) but the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board 鈥 the project client 鈥 is still assessing construction costs to reach a final contract price with main contractor Laing O鈥橰ourke.

The 470-bed, 55,000 m2 new build hospital will provide complex specialist and critical care treatment for more than 600,000 people in southeast Wales. It will be built on land around the existing Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital site and will include a 24-hour acute assessment unit and emergency department.

Laing O鈥橰ourke, working with Gleeds as project and cost manager, will be using building information modelling technology (BIM level 2) and is scheduled to complete the scheme by spring 2021.
