Support offered for redundant Dunne employees

26 Jul 16 Government and unions are offering their support to former employees of the Dunne Group who were made redundant when the company collapsed last week.

The Scottish government is running two support clinics in West Lothian from 10am -4pm on Thursday 28th July and Tuesday 2nd August at Business Gateway, Greendykes Road in Broxburn. The meetings are being organised by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) on behalf of the Scottish government鈥檚 redundancy action group PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment).

Meanwhile Ucatt Scotland has called a meeting of laid-off Dunne employees at 6.30pm today (Tuesday 26th July) at the union鈥檚 offices in Glasgow (33 Dalintober Street). 聽All are invited, whether Ucatt members or not, to receive free advice on their legal position.

Around 385 staff in Scotland were made redundant by Dunne鈥檚 administrators last week, plus a further 139 in England.

Ucatt Scotland regional secretary Steve Dillon said: 鈥淭he collapse of Dunne Group is a major blow to those working in the construction industry in Scotland. This union will now step up to the plate to support our members to the hilt and we will also do whatever we can for those other workers who aren鈥檛 Ucatt members.鈥

He added: 鈥淲e welcome the speed with which the Scottish government agencies have acted and we will work closely with them to try to minimise the impact of Dunne鈥檚 closure on its workers. We will explore all avenues to protect and support our members in this terrible time for them.鈥
