Willmott Dixon lends a hand in Hammersmith & Fulham

27 Jan 11 A link-up between Willmott Dixon Partnerships and H&F Homes has led to the launch of a new handycall service for local elderly and vulnerable residents living in sheltered accommodation.

The service, which covers the Hammersmith and Fulham area, is designed to help residents living in H&F Homes managed properties with general jobs in their homes. Residents can call on Willmott Dixon鈥檚 engineers to help with things like putting up picture frames, assembling furniture, resealing work in bathrooms, measuring for a letterbox to be fitted and putting up curtain poles.

It鈥檚 part of Willmott Dixon鈥檚 work with H&F Homes to provide a full reactive repairs service in the south of the borough and also carry out repairs to void properties across its entire 13,500 housing stock.

Patricia Roberts, Willmott Dixon鈥檚 resident liaison officer on the contract, explains the need for such a service. She said, 鈥淔rom liaising with tenants we were aware that they often struggled to complete smaller jobs around the home. Working with H&F Homes we highlighted the opportunities for our multi-skilled operatives to lend a helping hand to those in need.

鈥淭he feedback we have received has been great and customers are really happy to have a service of this nature available. 鈥淢any of us can take the ability to do such things ourselves for granted. Our team of handy people are being welcomed into the community and we are hoping that we can continue to lend a hand for the foreseeable future and enhance the community spirit here in the area.鈥

Local resident, Alvin Green, 84, recently experienced the service firsthand when the team went to replace his old curtains. He said, 鈥淚 was so pleased with the service, it was so efficient and friendly. It is a job that I would have struggled to carry out myself due to lifting and having to reach the height of the curtain rail so it was great to have this sort of service available. I want to personally thank Willmott Dixon for showing such dedication to the community.鈥
